Twenty-two of the nation’s experts in value-based benefit
design (VBBD) convened recently at an Innovators’ Summit,
sponsored by the Center for Health Value Innovation
(www.vbhealth.org), to identify and weigh the 15 macro
levers that drive health improvement and bend the trend of
cost inflation. The goal of the session was to deliver a
decision matrix for priorities to employers, coalitions, and
consultants.
“This senior-level think tank offered its expertise and
guidance, reaching consensus on achieving consumer
engagement and priorities for change,” says Cyndy Nayer,
president and CEO of the Center, noting that a formal report
on these findings will be issued in August 2009. “Their
collective experience in implementing value-based design programs cannot be replicated in any
other forum, and the Center acknowledges their individual contributions with deep gratitude.”
Over a two-day session, Innovators’ Summit stakeholders evaluated the levers of VBBD which
collectively achieve improvement through prevention and wellness, care management, and care
delivery for predictable, replicable heath and financial trends.
Jack Mahoney, M.D., chief medical officer of the Center, and Nayer — both co-founders of the
Center — concur, “The goal of the summit was to bring together the enormous firepower of the
Board of Directors in order to share the learnings of leveraging health for improved economic
stability. As a result, employers will be able to assess their priorities for program adoption, using
the decision matrix that will also be delivered with the Summit results.”
Mike Taylor, M.D., FACP, chairman of the Center, adds, “The Center is committed to providing
these tools and evidence to promote health improvement across the value-chain and drive
economic stability.”
